Welcome to
FLYING WITH RAND
Hello,
I’m Rand Peck and among other things, I’m a B-757 captain
for a major U.S. Airline. The airline industry certainly isn’t what it
used to be, but I still love flying the 757 and the 727 before that. I’m
also an aviation writer and photographer
and historian and have had more than 50 articles published in a variety of aviation
magazines. As much as I enjoy writing and shooting, I take pleasure in
researching and passing information along to others interested in
aviation.
My photography has also appeared in
national news magazines, accompanying articles written by others,
concerning the airline industry. If you need specific airline
photography, let me know, I have thousands of shots in my library, or I can arrange to get exactly what you need. My digital Nikon is always charged and ready.
Please take a moment to visit my TAILWHEEL MANUAL page and learn about my fascination and approach to flying small, tailwheel airplanes. I wrote this manual for my own students, because others on the market were too dry, and complicated a very simple and enjoyable subject. There’s nothing more fun than landing a Cub or a Luscombe or a Champ on a small grass strip. Also, you’ll learn about our new Tailwheel DVD that we’re producing for a Spring 2006 distribution.
And for new and old manual customers, please send along a picture of your airplane to add to our
Tailwheel page.
During the summer and autumn months, I spend a great deal of time in my J-3 Cub, flying in search of interesting aviators and airfields in New England. Thankfully, New England is not a large place! I write about these events too, but visit our
NEW ENGLAND AVIATION page, where I’ll highlight a small, interesting airfield quarterly. We’ll visit among others, the Hampton Airfield, Plum Island, Katama on Martha’s Vineyard and the Ice Runway on Alton Bay on Lake
Winnipesaukee. Grass roots flying at its best, including great restaurants and ice cream stands.
Take a look through our PUBLISHED ARTICLES page. I’ve chosen a few of my favorite articles and reproduced them here. You’ll also find LINKS to some of my favorite aviation websites and have the opportunity to meet some really wonderful fliers.
For those of you who enjoy aviation history, I invite you to peruse through
RANDS HISTORY. I’ve had an awful lot of fun getting here and have met some wonderful people, flown some classic airplanes and seen a lot of the world along the way.
If you have any questions about airplanes, airliners, or how to get started in writing…send me an
email, I’ll be glad to offer any assistance that I can. There’s nothing so fun, as doing that which you
enjoy.
Thanks and I hope to hear from you - Rand

Thanks for stopping by and visiting my newly updated site. Below, I've attached several PDF's from a variety of magazines that have published my work. Thanks very much to these editors, particularly to my friends at
AIRWAYS
MAGAZINE. I hope that you enjoy these stories, just a sampling of the more than 80 now, that I've been fortunate to have published. For more commentary and aviation photography, continue below to
my blog, where I outline specific trips, layovers, crews and airplanes. And when you've finished reading, strap in and click on my photo albums. These are representative of the nearly 10,000 airline photos that I've taken over my career. My goal when I trip the shutter and take a shot, is to place you in my cockpit seat or on an airline ramp during a walk around to experience my unique perspective. From Europe, throughout North America to Asia, navigating the Atlantic and Pacific track systems, flying jet airliners has been a wonderful career and I hope to share some of my experiences with you here on my site. Publishers, editors and news sources interested in obtaining stories and/or photography can contact me at

Rand recently traveled to Dallas, Texas to participate and consult for a new documentary film concerning a 1972, FH-227 crash in the Andes Mountains. The charter flight carried a Uruguayan rugby team that spent 70 days in the mountains awaiting rescue. Lead by team member Nando
Parrado, who hiked for 10 days through the Andes in search of rescue for his teammates. Sixteen of the original 45 passengers and crew survived a harrowing experience to remain alive. Look for this film, produced by AMS Pictures, to debut in early 2011.

Gary Orlando, from the Whistle Pig website and I were privileged to have participated in this new film, slated for release during the summer of 2010. Thanks very much to AMS President Andy Streitfeld and Director Brad Osborne for including us in this very moving production.
